What we keep, what we don't.

Merkx is built around something fragile: a real conversation. We take privacy seriously because the alternative would make the product impossible. This page explains what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email, phone (optional), profile photo.
- Your conversations with Merkx — text, voice notes, voice call transcripts.
- Memories Merkx forms about you (things you tell us about your life, the people in it, what you care about).
- Device push tokens so Merkx can reach you when something matters.
- Basic device info: model, OS version, app version, language.
- Payment confirmations from Apple, Flutterwave, or Paystack — never the card details themselves.
How it's stored
Every message, memory, and voice transcript is encrypted at rest with Fernet symmetric encryption. The key never leaves our servers. If our database were stolen tomorrow, the attacker would see ciphertext, not your conversations.
Connections between your phone and our servers use TLS 1.2 or higher. Voice calls are end-to- end encrypted between your device and our voice provider.
Who else sees this
To make Merkx work we send your messages to a small set of trusted services:
- Anthropic— generates Merkx's replies. Conversations are not used to train their models.
- OpenAI — transcribes your voice notes via Whisper. Audio is not retained for training.
- ElevenLabs— generates Merkx's voice on calls. Transcripts are stored encrypted on our side, not theirs.
- Apple, Flutterwave, Paystack — process payments. They see what you paid, not what you said.
- AWS — hosts the servers, in the US.
We do not sell data. We do not share with advertisers. We do not train models on what you tell Merkx.
What you can do
- Export all your data from inside the app (Settings → Privacy → Export).
- Delete a single memory at any time (Memory Vault → tap memory → Delete).
- Delete your entire account (Settings → Privacy → Delete account). Hard delete after a 30-day grace window, in case you change your mind.
Children
Merkx is for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child has signed up, email privacy@merkx.ai and we'll remove the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this works, we'll update the date at the top of this page and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
